TRANSLATOR TRAINING SEMINARS

Designed for future translators who wish to hone their skills, active practitioners looking for a systematic review of their skills, as well as those seeking an exciting alternative path for studying both English and Japanese, our translation seminars focus on the practical aspects of specific techniques.

Serving as chief instructor is the seminars' creator and Director of Translation Seminars, Michael Ozawa, a renowned Northern California translator and editor. The English-to-Japanese division offers four courses: The Essentials of E-J Translation, where students focus on the interpretation of source text and the fundamental skills of E-J translation; The Practical Strategies of E-J Translation, where students build core translation skills using texts from a wide range of fields; The Proficiency Upgrade Seminar, where students challenge more difficult texts and learn advanced skills in preparation for professional work; and Business Documents, where students pool all the skills acquired in the above three courses to apply them to the translation of documents taken from the real-life business environment, including the computer industry.

The Japanese-to-English division deals with issues of word choice, sentence structure and culture which are unique to Japanese-to-English translation, as well as definite/indefinite articles, prepositions and other grammatical issues, which often cause trouble for many Japanese people.

Choose either weekday evening or Saturday sessions. Correspondence courses are also available.
